MEDICINAL PROPERTIES
A large evergreen tree, up to 10m tall. Leaves fleshy, elliptic or slightly obovate. Flowers white, with red colouration in russet or olive brown. 5 follicle, each follicle having 14 seeds in 2 rows, seeds commonly pink or red.
The nuts are chewed to dispel fatigue, sleep and hunger. In humans it acts as respiratory analeptic, mildly positively chronotropic and mild diuretic. Cola is used internally to decrease mental and physical fatigue. In flock medicine it is chewed to treat diarrhoea, suppress hunger, thirst morning sickness and migraine. It is also used to promote digestion.
